Energetic Sensitivity Clearing for Horses
Helping the Body See Harmless Substances as Safe
Shortly after adopting my horse Fitz, I noticed he would always rest in the shelter at dusk. Each year it seemed to get worse. He tolerated dusk less and less, started itching more, and one summer he hit his limit. He became very agitated in the evening, rubbed his mane raw, paced and pawed in the shelter, and his system became inflamed all over. I tried everything, fly sheets, sprays, creams, supplements and nothing brought real relief. Watching him struggle was heartbreaking, and I began asking myself: Why does his body react more intensely each year, and what can I do to better support his comfort and overall wellbeing?
Down the rabbit hole 🐇🕳️ I went. I studied, researched, and learned so much about how allergies impact the body and a variety of supportive herbs and feeds to calm mast cells. I also started noticing correlation on how metabolic conditions often amplify allergic responses, as in the case for Fitz, creating a cascade of inflammation. But still, something was missing. Then it clicked! The answer had been with me all along, I just needed to reconnect with it.
My dad, a chiropractor and acupuncturist, had long used energetic techniques alongside kinesiology to help people clear sensitivities. I remembered my own experiences. As a teenager, I had developed reactions to dairy and grasses, and treatments from my dad had cleared them completely. Years later, both of my sons experienced similar sensitivities with foods and environmental triggers, that also cleared beautifully with an energetic approach. Seeing how this work helped my family made me realize it could support horses too. So I dove back in the rabbit hole, blending the foundations of my dad’s teachings with what I’ve learned from multiple skilled practitioners, exploring NAET and Dr. Cutler’s work, and completing case studies with horses who responded beautifully.
What Happens in the Body When Allergies Develop?
Fitz isn’t alone. Allergies and sensitivities in horses are more common than many realize. Insect bite hypersensitivity, the most common seasonal skin allergy in horses, affects around 10% of the general population, and in imported or heavily exposed populations, that number can be much higher, closer to 50%. (Spruce, 2021). Respiratory and environmental reactions tied to dust, pollen, mold, or stable conditions are also widespread. But it’s not only environmental. Dietary sensitivities, reactions to grains, supplements, feeds, and molds quietly affect many horses as well. When the system is triggered by a sensitivity, horse guardians may notice subtle or chronic itching, digestive upset, bloating, frequent colics, skin reactions, weight fluctuations, or chronic systemic inflammation.
When a horse encounters a true pathogen such as a virus or bacteria, the immune system jumps into action to protect the body. That response is normal and essential.
Allergies are different.
An allergic response begins when the body mistakenly identifies something harmless like pollen, dust, feed ingredients, minerals, or grasses as dangerous. The immune system reacts as though it needs to defend the horse from a real threat. B cells (white blood cells) produce IgE antibodies specific to that allergen, which bind to mast cells and basophils. With each exposure, the mast cells release histamine and other inflammatory chemicals, triggering a cascade of symptoms: itching, hives, watery eyes, digestive changes, restlessness, and irritability. Repeated exposures reinforce this memory, and mast cells release at a stronger and quicker rate, which is why reactions often become more intense or more frequent year after year.
Traditional Chinese Medicine describes a similar process through the lens of energy. The body is designed to move Qi, or vital energy, through the meridians. When Qi flows freely, the organ systems communicate clearly and respond with ease. But when the body encounters something it perceives as stressful or dangerous, the energetic pathways can become stagnant. This stagnation disrupts how the immune, digestive, lymphatic, and respiratory systems coordinate. Heat may build, fluids can accumulate, and symptoms begin to surface. The longer the blockage persists, the more pronounced the physical symptoms become.
From both a scientific and energetic perspective, the story is the same: the body is reacting to something harmless as if it were dangerous.
How Energy Sensitivity Clearings Work
The work I offer supports the nervous system, meridians, and energetic pathways so the body can stop viewing harmless exposures as threats. It is gentle, noninvasive, and tailored to each individual horse.
I begin with kinesiology, or muscle testing, which helps identify which substances the horse reacts to. It’s a way to listen to the nervous system and the body to see what’s causing disruption.
Once sensitivities are identified, I use acupressure along related meridians and gentle stimulation near the spinal nerves. This helps the body clear energetic congestion and reorganize its response. In many ways, it’s a reprogramming of how the nervous system interprets that substance. Instead of viewing it as harmful, the body is supported in recognizing it as neutral again.
To help the shift hold, I often incorporate herbs or homeopathic remedies that support the liver, lymphatic flow, digestion, skin, or respiratory comfort. Each is chosen based on what the horse shows during the session.
Balance often happens in layers. Most horses benefit from more than one session because each treatment helps unwind another part of the pattern. Over time the body becomes more resilient. Reactions soften. Seasonal discomfort is less dramatic. The system responds instead of overreacting.

These examples illustrate how combining energetic and herbal supports can help horses shift their response to allergens, reducing inflammation and improving day-to-day comfort.
If your horse has been dealing with allergies or sensitivities and you’re curious about a gentle, holistic approach, I’d love to connect and share what a session looks like.
